Common questions
Green by the sack, roasted by the bag. Trade and retail.
Buying & roasting
How long does delivery take?
We roast on Tuesdays, and orders ship right after the roast — UK delivery is then 1 to 2 business days with full tracking. Retail orders over £30 ship free; below that, delivery is shown at checkout.
Can I return roasted coffee I’ve changed my mind about?
If you’re a consumer buying online, you have 14 days from delivery to cancel your order under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 and receive a refund. Unopened, sealed bags can be returned; opened bags can’t be, for food-safety reasons. Faulty or mis-described coffee is always covered, whatever the reason.
See our Terms and Conditions (section 6). Wholesale and trade orders are business-to-business, so this change-of-mind right doesn’t apply unless we’ve agreed it in writing.
When do you roast?
We roast on Tuesdays. Order by Monday 18:00 to make that week’s roast; later orders go in the next one. Everything ships fresh, roasted to order.
Which grind should I pick?
We grind to order. Whole bean keeps longest; choose Filter for pour-over and cafetière, or Espresso for machines. Not sure? Go with whole bean and grind as you brew.
What do Washed and Natural mean?
How the fruit came off the bean at the farm. Washed: the fruit is washed off before drying, for clean, classic flavours. Natural: the bean dries inside the fruit, for bolder, fruitier cups. It’s the second word on every coffee’s name, so you know what to expect before you taste it.
Can I pause or skip a subscription?
Yes. Pause, skip, change your grind or frequency, or cancel anytime from your account. No notice period.
Wholesale & green beans
Who can buy from Gonzalez Brothers?
We supply specialty green coffee to roasters, cafés with in-house roasting, home roasters, and coffee businesses across the UK and Europe. We sell fresh-roasted coffee to everyone else. Pricing is public, so you can browse the catalogue and order without an account.
Want your company on the invoice? Fill in the Company field at checkout — optional on every order. Running a café or roastery? You can open a trade account for trade pricing on roasted coffee.
How do I get a trade account and trade pricing?
Cafés, roasters and coffee businesses can open a trade account for trade pricing on roasted coffee (a discount off the retail price, shown per lot). Every new account opens with a tasting: we bring the current list to you and cup it with your team.
Log in with the account you’d buy with (or create one), then apply from the trade page. It takes a couple of minutes and asks for your business details. We review each application and get back to you; keep buying at standard prices in the meantime.
Once you’re approved, pick from your trade price list and request a quote. We reply with shipping and one total, and nothing is charged until you confirm. Bags added from the retail shop pages are charged at the shelf price.
What’s the minimum order for green beans?
One sack. Green sells by the whole GrainPro sack, priced per kilo — sack sizes vary by lot and each row on the green list shows its own (38–69kg today). You can mix lots freely in one order. Prefer to try first? Request a sample from any lot page and cup it before committing.
How do I request a sample?
Open any lot on the green list and use Request a sample at the bottom of the page: 150g green, or 75g roasted to our reference profile. Samples are free to start — up to three lots per request, no account needed. We confirm by email before anything ships; UK delivery is free, and to EU/EFTA we quote shipping when we confirm. Samples are subject to lot availability and fair use. See our Terms and Conditions.
What does SCA 84+ mean?
Every lot we list scores 84 or above. The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) grades coffee on a 100-point scale, where 80 and up is specialty grade. So 84+ sits firmly in the specialty tier, with complex, distinctive flavours.
What are your payment terms?
Retail orders are paid at checkout by card (Shopify Payments), Apple Pay, Google Pay, Shop Pay or PayPal. Trade and green orders are quoted first, then paid by bank transfer (BACS/CHAPS) or card; 30-day invoice terms are available for trade accounts. Invoice terms change when you pay, not what you’ve bought: coffee is sold firm, and we don’t take back unsold stock. Coffee is zero-rated for UK VAT, so no VAT is added to coffee prices. Shipping may carry VAT at the applicable rate. All prices are in GBP.
How long does wholesale delivery take?
UK delivery is typically 1 to 2 business days with full tracking. Wholesale delivery is quoted per order. EU and international delivery times vary. Contact us for a quote. For orders outside the UK, customs duties and import taxes are the buyer’s responsibility.
What bag sizes and packaging do you offer?
Green coffee ships in GrainPro-lined jute sacks (sizes vary by lot; each row on the green list shows its own), stored in our London warehouse. Roasted coffee comes in 250g, 500g, and 1kg bags, whole bean or ground to order.
What if the coffee doesn’t match the sample?
Every sample is drawn from the lot it represents, and we keep a retained sample of each lot for comparison. If a delivered lot is materially different from the sample, tell us within 5 business days of arrival. We’ll cup it against our retained sample and, if we confirm the deviation, offer a replacement, credit, or refund.
For transit damage, send us photos as soon as you can (ideally within 48 hours for trade orders) so we can raise it with the carrier. This never affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
Do you carry certified coffees?
Some lots come from certified producers; details are shown on the listing. Our focus is cup quality and direct relationships with growers, and many of our farms go beyond certification. Ask us for specific documentation.
What does ‘direct trade’ mean?
We work directly with partner fincas in the Ecuadorian Andes. No middlemen, no commodity exchanges. We visit regularly and pay for quality. This means lot-level traceability for our trade partners, and unique lots you won’t find elsewhere.
Can we visit the fincas?
Yes. We organise origin trips for wholesale partners to visit the farms, meet the producers, and cup coffee at source. Get in touch to learn about upcoming trips.
Office & café coffee
Can our office try before committing?
Yes. We include a complimentary sample selection with your first order (subject to availability), so your team can find what they love. There’s no long-term commitment. If it’s not right, tell us.
Is there a minimum order or contract for offices?
No minimum order and no long-term contracts. You can adjust your order, skip a delivery, or cancel at any time.
How much coffee does my office need?
We size on two cups per person per working day, at 8g a cup — about 16g per person a day. For a team of 20 that’s roughly 6 to 7kg a month. The office page does this maths for you and suggests a size.
How does office delivery work?
We roast every Tuesday and ship right after, with full tracking. Office subscriptions include free delivery, and you pick the cycle, weekly to monthly, when you subscribe, then change or skip it from your account any time.
Can we rotate between different coffees?
Yes. We can rotate single origins, blends and new lots each delivery, so the coffee stays interesting.
What grind options do you offer?
We offer whole bean, filter, espresso, and cafetière grinds. If you’re not sure which is right for your setup, just let us know what machine or method you use and we’ll recommend the best option.
How is my data handled when I enquire?
When you submit an office coffee enquiry, we collect your name, email, company, and any details you share, so we can respond to your request. We won’t use your details for marketing without your explicit consent. See our Privacy Policy for more.
